"I did not expect my husband would do such thing to me," said a 40-year-old woman, whose face is blistered after her husband splashed formic acid on her for refusing to have sex with him.

She, however, said she was resigned to her fate following the incident.

"I can get up but I'm still weak to walk about," said the woman who is warded at Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital in Kuantan.

"In the incident (early Wednesday morning), I could not avoid the acid attack and it splashed the left side of my face.

"I rushed to the bathroom to splash water on my face. I felt stinging pain," she recalled.

"My blood pressure is also high and I need follow-up treatment here for a month for my facial scars," she added.

A Bernama report yesterday said that in the 2am incident the previous day, the woman's 47-year-old husband, a rubber smallholder, had just returned home in the Bukit Sagu 2 land scheme, here, after he was believed to have gone out gambling.

Kuantan district police deputy chief Supt Zulkifli Taha was quoted as saying that the man then woke up his wife to have sex but she refused.

Enraged, he went to get formic acid from outside the house and splashed it on her.
