Police detained a 17-year-old boy for allegedly impersonating the ‘Tuan Muda Pahang’ and claiming to be an adopted son of the Tengku Mahkota of Pahang, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

He was also alleged to have used the title ‘Yang Mulia Tuan Muda’ to deceive a state executive councillor and the National Service (NS) Training Department.

Kuantan police chief Supt Zulkifli Taha said the teenager was detained at his relative's house in Pekan yesterday following a report lodged by the Pahang palace.

"The suspect was alleged to have fabricated a letter, purportedly from the Tengku Puan Pahang, and sent it to the Cahaya Gemilang NS training camp to inform that he was visiting the camp," he told reporters in Kuantan today.

He said in response to the letter, National Service (NS) Training Department director-general, Abdul Hadi Awang Kecil, came to Pahang to accompany the "prince" to visit the camp.

"Last Monday, the suspect waited for Abdul Hadi's arrival at the Sultan Ahmad Shah Airport and then went to the Cahaya Gemilang camp in Cherating," he added.

Zulkifli said that last month, the suspect was also alleged to have visited a home for the disabled which was located near the NS training camp at Kampung Hijrah.

He said the visit by the "prince" to the home was also attended by a state executive councillor.

The suspect, from Bera, would be remanded until Tuesday. Police were investigating his motive, he added.
