BN will not resort to campaigning along racial lines in the Hulu Selangor parliamentary by-election, said Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

He said all voters in the constituency were important as they were 'kings' who would determine the BN fate on polling day on April 25.

"We will not segregate the Malay, Chinese or Indian voters in our campaign.

NONE "We will go down to all areas irrespective of whether they are in the urban or rural areas to hear the people's grievances and find remedies or render assistance to them," he told reporters after officiating the ground-breaking ceremony of Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (Cina) Bukit Tangga and presenting a RM3 million cheque to the school here today.

"We are doing this as each community has their own perennial problems. Even within the same geographical area, the issues sometimes are not similar," he added.

He said the BN would clarify issues raised by the opposition during the campaign.

Silly story about gold mine

"For example, I have information that the DAP will create a silly story about a gold mine in Raub, Pahang.

"They will say that the gold mining activities are harmful as they emitted toxic substances. This is a big lie but they will bring the issue here anyway, claiming that the project involving foreign and local investors and the state government does not benefit the people.

"The people here, who may not know the actual situation, will be misled into thinking that we are cruel, the BN government is not concerned with the environment, and the people's health and interest," he said.

Muhyiddin said all quarters and agencies concerned had studied the project to ensure that it was safe as the health risks had been taken into consideration.

"If the DAP exploits the issue, we will be on the offensive as we have accurate information on the project and we will not beguile the people on things that are not correct.

"We are not a party that hoodwinks the people, we explain the reality. We will take this approach," he added.

To explain on Apco

He said BN leaders and ministers would explain to the people on issues raised by the opposition including the Apco and the Inter-faith Relations Working Committee issues.

On BN candidate P Kamalanathan, who is MIC information chief, Muhyiddin said he was well received by the people compared to PKR candidate Zaid Ibrahim.

"We know that he is a newcomer, so in the next 10 days we will go to every nook and corner of Hulu Selangor to present him to the people," said Muhyiddin.

On the nomination day tomorrow, Muhyiddin said he hoped the opposition would abide by the law and not cause any provocation that could cause a fight or commotion.

"The BN will obey the law and take heed of the Election Commission's advice. I hope the opposition will do likewise," he added.
