I'm ready to make tough decisions, says Najib

Sugumaran Rajaram: Bravo PM Najib Razak for an inspiring speech. What this government needs is honesty and integrity. The makan duit mentality must stop immediately.

Stop pitting the races against one another, for a start. Be a government for all Malaysians. There is enough resources for all. Stop being greedy. Exert some self-control, be proud of your country and all citizens. Lastly be true to your self.

What is there to gain if all honour and trust is gone? Dishonesty kills your soul. Ill gains are not gains but curses unto you and generations that follows. Being PM is more than a job. It's a calling.

Govindasamy: Mr Prime Minister, your talk makes for good movie scripting. But when the 1Malaysia concept was mooted, it was your deputy who went against it by putting race ahead of country. Instead of reprimanding him, you concurred with him. That was where your 1Malaysia has failed miserably.

If you are really serious about tapping the potential of all Malaysians, dismantle the affirmative policy favouring one race immediately after your return from the US. Then we will start believing you.

Habib Rak: "I believe in the common sense of all Malaysians," says Najib.

Common sense demands answers to Altantuya Shaariibuu's murder. What's the motive of the convicted? Why is your ADC (aide-de-camp Musa Mohd Safri ) not allowed to be called to witness stand? Why has police chief Musa Hassan not been sacked though he has been clearly implicated in many issues?

These and many other common-sense questions are pending answers. Are really ready to make tough decisions on these?

KSN: Really? Let us start with implementing the Police Royal Commission's recommendations, making the judiciary independent and getting rid of the incompetents, make the civil service - both federal and states - and police force multiracial, uplift the poor from all races, make the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission independent, stop discrimination based on religion and race, be transparent, stop corruption, fill the Parliament with competent men and women, award scholarships based on merit, increase the standard of education at all levels, open up Mara, Felda, Felcra, etc, to all Malaysians.

That should do for starters. Then bring all the corrupt to book, replace the attorney-general with someone who will perform the functions according to the book (since the IGP is already on the way out).

The country is fed-up of lip-service. Speaking on platforms with high-sounding phrases is not going to work any more. Delivery is crucial. The people are watching.

Phra Ong Chao: Quite well said. But try saying that at the Umno general assembly in Malaysia, not in New York.

Keturunan Malaysia: Sir, come back to Malaysia and repeat what you said, as many times as it takes, to your colleagues and Umno members, all the government department personnel, the judiciary, schools, and the rakyat, until it sinks into their skulls.

Talk is really cheap, and we have been having that for decades. What we desperately want is for someone in your position to walk the talk.

Abacus: Would your knees weaken and buckle when you're back in the country and you face people like Muhyiddin Yassin and Ibrahim Ali? Let all true-blooded Malaysians watch and decide (for themselves).

Jeremy Tankh: If PM Najib's claim that "multi-ethnic Malaysia must work towards forging a genuine national identity" is his real goal, then his closest allies are also his biggest enemies: top on the list are his deputy, Muhyiddin, Perkasa chief Ibrahim and former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Since taking office, every step the PM has made towards this goal has seen his DPM taking two steps back, nullifying his effort, or even worse, giving him a new headache.

Ibrahim Ali has taken upon himself to champion Malay interests at a time when Najib has decided rightly to move forward towards multi-racialism in the form of ‘1 Malaysia'

Mahathir has said that the NEP crutch for the Malays, which is mean for the weak, cannot be undone yet because like the Native Americans of the US, they're still in need of handicaps.

SusahKes: I do remember one Abdullah Ahmad Badawi also stating something similar: "Saya pantang dicabar" . Abdullah was also heard saying, "I am PM for all Malaysians".

But finally, his going-out from Putrajaya was not decided by all Malaysians, but by approximately 2,000 Umnoputras.

Anyway, I hope you will remain tough. The latest talk in town is that the French are going to start investigating that submarine deal. You know, THAT submarine deal.
