Former deputy chief minister I Mohammad Fairus Khairuddin has settled the state government loan used to purchase a Mercedes Benz.

"We had received the amount from him after the last notice was sent last month urging him to settle the loan," he told reporters after attending the Balik Pulau PKR dinner in Pulau Pinang last night.

He said a notice had been sent to Fairus urging him to pay the outstanding sum or return the car within two weeks.

Penang state executive councillors are entitled to a five-year RM130,000 car loan and a RM100,000 housing loan of which payments are deducted from their monthly salaries.

Fairus serviced the loan until he quit as deputy chief minister and state executive councillor on Apr 8 last year.

On  Apr 16, he resigned as Penanti state assemblyman.
