The New Economic Model (NEM), unveiled by the prime minister Najib Abdul Razak last month, will be a pull factor for the Chinese voters towards the BN in the Hulu Selangor by-election, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) president VK Liew ( below ) said.

liew vui keong He said the NEM was well received by the Chinese as they were convinced that the policy would spur the country's economy and the people's per capita income to greater heights.

"I'm confident that the BN can win the seat. The prime minister has introduced good policies for all strata of the society.

"The Chinese, for instance, welcome the 1Malaysia vision and the prime minister has also introduced the NEM which is well received by the Chinese," he told reporters after attending a dinner in conjunction with LDP 21st anniversary in Hulu Selangor last night.

Liew, who is also Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, said the people as a whole also supported the policies introduced by the prime minister.

Liew said that P Kamalanathan, the BN candidate for the Hulu Selangor parliamentary by-election, had a bright chance of winning the seat as he was a friendly man and the people were comfortable with him.

He said that as a BN component party, LDP would assist the coalition's campaign in Hulu Selangor as well as in the Sibu parliamentary by-election in Sarawak.

The polling for the Hulu Selangor by-election is on Apr 25.

The nomination for the Sibu by-election is on May 8 while polling is on May 16.
