Kelantan Umno liaison committee chief Mustapa Mohamed (

"I personally know Zaid Ibrahim for about eight years and he was my deputy and was Kota Baharu MP and the people of Kelantan all know what he did.
"The voters of Hulu Selangor need to know what he has done and Kelantan Umno does not want voters to make the wrong choice," Mustapa told reporters Kota Baharu today.
He said Zaid's track record as MP for one term since the 2004 general election showed he failed to serve the people.
"Compared to the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate, P Kamalanathan, who has many good points to develop Hulu Selangor. I still remember that when I was Minister of Higher Education, he strived to bring the ministry closer to Indian students.
"P Kamalanathan has an excellent and clean record and he can serve the people well compared to Zaid who does not know the problems in Hulu Selangor," he said.
Mustapa said several of Zaid's good friends had said they will campaign for the BN.
Kamalanathan 'apt pick'
Mustapa who is Minister of International Trade and Industry, was confident that the performance of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak via his 1Malaysia slogan was well received by the people, including residents of Hulu Selangor.
The Hulu Selangor seat was declared vacant following the death of MP Zainal Abidin Ahmad on Mar 25.
Meanwhile, Umno supreme council member, Saifuddin Abdullah, said the choice of Kamalanathan will draw votes from youths as his picking was apt as he was young at 44-years of age.
The number of young male voters in Hulu Selangor below the age of 40 is 11,700, whereas the total percentage of young men and women was 33 per cent.
Saifuddin, who is also Termerloh MP, said the 55 per cent of Malay voters was not an issue as he was confident of their maturity to view BN's overall political struggle.
