Following advice from the party leadership, a former aide to Puteri Umno chief Azalina Othman Said today lodged a report with the Umno management committee over alleged discrepancies in the young women's wing.

Elly @ Zalilah Yusof said she has submitted her complaints about the abuse of power Azalina allegedly committed while leading the wing since its establishment just over a year ago.

"Since Pak Lah (Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi) is overseas, I submitted the report to Umno secretary-general Khalil Yaakob," Elly told malaysiakini today.

The report was given to Khalil's personal assistant at his office this morning, she said.

Elly said the official report was submitted to the party following advice from Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad who wanted the matter to be resolved internally.

Last week, Elly had lodged a report at the Brickfields police station after her previous complaint to an undisclosed senior Umno leader fell on deaf ears and she was told the matter should be investigated by the police.

'Thick as a telephone directory'

Describing her report to be "as thick as a telephone directory", Elly said it contains all documents pertaining to Azalina's alleged wrongdoings.

"Among others, it contains documents on the involvement of a third party in Puteri Umno and matters pertaining to [double memberships] given to some of the members," said Elly.

That outsiders' names were used to register four vehicles belonging to the wing was included in the report, said the 26-year-old who admitted to having spied on other Puteri Umno leaders for Azalina, a lawyer.

"In fact, my latest check with the Road Transport Department last week still reveals that the four vans are registered under individual names who have no links with Puteri Umno," she added.

Other items in the report included irregular financial matters and expenditures, according to Elly.

"I really hope that Pak Lah can look into this matter as soon as possible and follow it up with the right action," added Elly.

"As someone new in politics, I thought the matter should be investigated by the police. Now that our prime minister had advised me on the proper channel, I am just following what he said," she said.

Elly added that Azalina who is in Finland for the Asia-Europe Dialogue must answer these allegations and not divert the issue.

In a press conference she held last week, Elly said she believed that more reports against Azalina will be lodged with the authorities by other Puteri Umno members.

Two contestants

With the wing's inaugural election scheduled for Nov 1, two people both sacked from the Puteri Umno pro tem exco have expressed their intention to contest for the top post.

The two, Raihan Suleiman Palestine and Mastina Abdul Karim, were also responsible for the birth of Umno's youngest wing.

Azalina, 38, was handpicked by the prime minister to lead the movement.

In April, publisher Khalid Jaffri the infamous author of the book 50 Dalil Kenapa Anwar Tidak Boleh Jadi Perdana Menteri which led to ex-deputy prime minister Anwar Ibrahim's downfall had accused Azalina of being a lesbian.

In his now banned tabloid newspaper Perdana Sari , Khalid alleged that Azalina had a sexual relation with a wife of a prominent businessman and had even spent RM300,000 of Puteri Umno's funds to buy her a luxury car as a birthday gift.
