It is heralded as the corruption case which brought down the Perak Pakatan Rakyat government - when two of the then PKR state excos were charged.

NONE Eventually the two switched from PKR to become BN-friendly independents and their departure along with that of Jelapang assemblyperson Hee Yit Foong from the DAP brought down the 11- month old Pakatan government.

This case had all the ingredients for eye-grabbing headlines, as there were allegations of corruption, sex and alleged abuse of power in granting a project.

Tomorrow the two Mohd Osman Mohd Jailu (Changkat Jering), 58, and Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi, 53, (Behrang) along with three others will know whether they will be acquitted or their defence called.

Meanwhile, Osman faces three counts of corruption , including allegedly asking and accepting a RM100,000 bribe.

Sex to spice up deal

The others accused are PKR politician Usaili Alias, 56, former Perak Tengah district councillor Zul Hassan, 46, contractor Fairul Azrim Ismail, 31.

One more accused, former Perak state economic development corporation technician, Ruslan Sahat, 46, had passed away recently.

They were charged with allegedly asking and accepting bribes including cash.

Some of them were slapped with an additional charge of accepting sexual favours from a woman arranged by Imran.

They were all accused of ensuring that Imran won the contract to develop 36 hectares under the jurisdiction of the Perak Tengah district council in Seri Iskandar.

All were arrested after a sting operation conducted by the then Anti -Corruption Agency.

Sessions judge Azhaniz Azman fixed tomorrow to deliver his decision on whether there is a prima facie case, after having heard submissions on April 12.

Prima facie means there is substantial reason brought by the prosecution for the accused to answer the charge.

Charges being dropped speculation

After Osman and Jamaluddin's decision to leave PKR, the proceedings began last year showing minimal involvement by the two in the alleged offence.

This created speculation the two might be acquitted tomorrow as form of returning a favour for their decision.

Initially, when they left PKR speculation was rife that the charges against the two would be dropped.

However, the case proceeded with much of the testimony focusing on all four.

Lawyer Abdul Roni Abdul Rahman, representing Osman and Jamaluddin said his two clients at the time of the alleged crime were Pakatan state excos and were not involved in land matters.

As such, Roni submitted they had no power to approve the alleged project.

Their abandoning the PKR resulted in Perak's political turmoil which landed in court.

It ended with the Federal Court controversially ruling on Feb 9 this year, that the Perak BN government was legitimate.
