Motion to refer Anwar to privilege committee passed

Ong: For Pakatan Rakyat, all three component parties participated in the debate. For BN, only Umno participate. Where are MCA, MIC, Gerakan and all those from Borneo. They don't count? They don't want to participate or not allowed to participate? Once again, this is 100 percent proof that Umno = BN. Or is it BN = Umno?

Doc: It is not an easy job for the House speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia especially when he is required to do Umno's bidding and cover up their mess. It's also difficult to silence the opposition when they have valid comments against the frivolous charges brought up by Umno against the opposition.

Bozuka: What a show by our ‘wakil rakyat'. Some behaving like ‘wakil for kerajaan' (government representative) and others as ‘wakil' for DSAI (Anwar Ibrahim). It seems like no one is actually ‘wakil' for the rakyat. Rakyat issues are less important for the MPs'.

FairMind: Honestly I don't see the relevance of this parliamentary debate when the government has admitted that it used the services of Apco. In the beginning, it denied using the services of Apco but when Anwar revealed the appointment contract, its authenticity has not only been unchallenged but confirmed by Nazri.

Therefore, the issue of 1Malaysia has become a moot point. All the parliamentarians are squabbling over nothing instead of attending to more important matters.

Boonpou: I don't see any relevance of this so-called Great Debate as advertised by this de facto law minister in the PM's Department.

The accusation invoked by BN against Anwar over 1Malaysia/Apco is entirely irrelevant as the rakyat are aware of what kind of governance we have in Malaysia over the past 51 years. This is yesterday's news. As such, regardless of how much Umno tries to divert and attempt to implicate Anwar or anyone else in Pakatan, the rakyat are no fools.

The Great Debate is nothing but a farce, further signifying the sheer lack of ingenuity the current regime has. Your time is truly up. To those of you within BN who still have some conscience, pride and humanity, perhaps you might want to be a frog, but a frog with a good cause.

SingaPuraPura: It is a waste of Pakatan's resources to debate the BN motion. It is a foregone conclusion that the BN parliamentarians will use their bully-majority to vote in favour of referring the opposition leader to the committee of privileges.

And as the said committee will also consist of a BN voting-majority, it is axiomatic that the said committee will decide that there has been a commission of a punishable contempt of the House by the opposition leader.

A recourse for Pakatan would be to later bring an action for a review of the said committee's decision (on verdict and sentence) as well as its decision-making process - as there is recent high precedent for the proposition that judicial review of legislative action and legislative procedure is possible in this land. Legislative proceedings are now justiciable.

In the meanwhile, let us all quickly get back to Hulu Selangor where the real and grim battle for Malaysia is seething.

Chuath: Khairy has missed his calling. He seems to center his arguments on what he perceives are the motives and intentions of the others rather than present facts and solid logical arguments. He should be a psychic if that's the best he can do.

Sentinel: How much longer are we Malaysians continuing to be so stupid as this and let BN bulldoze their way through? If they do not have respect for Anwar Ibrahim, the least they must have is respect for us Malaysians voters and taxpayers.

Multi Racial: What has the BN government proven? That there is no democracy.

Great debate: Clash of reason and ideas

Cala: Terence Netto sums it well. Given the fact that the BN has the numbers over Pakatan, this is hardly a fair debate, much less a great debate. The BN can not simply brush aside Anwar's irrefutable evidences.

The BN have to provide counter evidences, not by simply denying what have transpired in the Apco affair. By right the pre-conditions of a debate are:

i) both sides are eager to seek out the truth, nothing but the truth;

ii) an unbiased chairman to the debate; and

iii) a team of impartial and distinguished referees.

Since all the pre- conditions are not met, it looks to me the said debate is more akin to being a pre-session of an imminent kangaroo court bent to hang Anwar for linking 1Malaysia with One Israel.

Jbss: Terence, you are spot on about the federal regime using brute force rather than reasoned argument to bully Anwar (and the non-Umno parties). That has been the trademark of this corrupt and racist regime which tolerates no constructive criticisms from any source.
