Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin said that the BN’s KPI (key performance indicator) for the Hulu Selangor by-election is to win with a majority of 6,000 votes.

hulu selangor by-election voting day 250410 muhyiddin According to Muhyiddin, the target is based on the total majority BN received in the three state seats under the Hulu Selangor constituency two years ago.

In the 2008 general elections, BN won all the three state seats - Hulu Bernam (majority 3,549 votes), Kuala Kubu Bahru (448) and Batang Kali (2,179) - but lost the parliamentary seat (by 198 votes).

However, Muhyiddin stressed that the most important thing for BN is not so much the margin but to win today’s by-election.

"For me, I don't want to be optimistic... We just want victory," he told journalists at a press conference at the district police headquarters in Kuala Kubu Bahru.

Asked on BN’s chances, he said, "The overall sentiment, up to today, has been pro-Barisan. I hope this will translate into votes."

On the recent polls that showed that PKR was leading, Muhyiddin said, "We'll see, no need to speculate. The voting process is still on-going."

Not 'rowdy' but in 'high spirits'

The deputy prime minister also denied that the BN supporters at the polling stations were too rowdy.

NONE "The right term (to use) is high spirit,” said Muhyiddin.

He explained that BN workers had been working hard over the past two weeks and they wanted to remain in high spirit.

"This is quite reasonable under such circumstances."

But he stressed that the BN campaign workers will abide with the law and not resort to uncalled-for behaviour.

Asked on PKR candidate Zaid Ibrahim's complaint that he couldn’t get out from his car at certain polling stations due to the boisterous BN crowd, Muhyiddin retorted, "He doesn't dare to get out, he’s afraid of being booed.”

He added, "I get out (from car) and greeted PKR and PAS people. This is ‘semangat muhibbah’ (goodwill spirit)."

It is learnt that Zaid was advised by his minders to stay in his car at polling stations where BN supporters were deemed overly aggressive.

He also refused to get out of his car after BN workers hurled abuses at him including calling him “kaki botol” (drinker).

Muhyiddin was also asked about the illegal ‘pondok panas’ set up by both BN and PKR, which are banned by the Election Commission.

The deputy premier argued that the voters information booths are ‘bilik gerakan kecil’ (small operation room), which is necessary to both sides.

He suggested for EC to discuss with BN and Pakatan Rakyat after the by-election to set clear guidelines for party workers to carry our their work on polling day.
