A move to table a motion in the Dewan Negara to debate alleged 'meddling' in ntv7 was shot down on a “technicality” today.

tunku abdul aziz tunku ibrahim DAP national vice chairman and senator Tunku Abdul Aziz Ibrahim told a press conference in the Parliament lobby that he would not be deterred and would try to file a fresh motion.

He would not explain what the “technicality” was.

“We will redraft the motion and re-submit it again to the president of the senate during this sitting,” he said.

rosmah hilton hotel 221209 rosmah smile The quest for debate is based on an allegation that the premier's wife Rosmah Mansor and the Prime Minister's Department had interfered in ntv7's ‘Editor’s Time’ programme. Producer Joshua Wong resigned last Thursday as a result.

Contacted later, Abdul Aziz’s press secretary Faisal Mustafa said the motion will be tabled again tomorrow.

“We could have re-tabled it today, but we needed to make sure that Tunku will be here to present it. He is away on urgent business in Sabah. We will table it tomorrow as an urgent motion of public interest under Standing Order 17,” he said.

DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang, who was also at the press conference, said the move marks the reinvigoration of the senate.

“It will no longer be a sleeping chamber for political garbage,” he said.

Chimed in Abdul Aziz: “...or a rubber stamp.”

Both agreed that it was time that the senate takes its proper role in the legislature as the body to revise Bills passed by the Dewan Rakyat.
