The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has received 165 complaints from January to March against contents of websites and blogs under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Salang Gandum ( right ) said from the total 90 was for websites that contained obscene contents, 72 that were threatening or disturbing and three for incorrect or false contents.

"For obscene contents, investigation will carried out and action taken, including banning such websites.

"Reports of offences will also be sent to moderators of social websites like Facebook, blogspot and YouTube," he was reported by Bernama as having told the Dewan Negara today.

He was answering a question by Zaitun Mat who wanted to know the number of complaints received by MCMC.

For websites that carry threatening or false contents, they would be advised and warned, said Salang.

If there was enough evidence, they could also be charged for such

offences.

He added that 81 websites so far which carried obscene contents had been ordered closed.
