The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) arrested 64 people between January and April this year for offering bribes involving RM200,000 in cash.

MACC investigation director Mustafar Ali said traffic offenders topped the number of bribe givers at 21 followed by foreigners (19 cases) regarding work permit applications, and seven cases of attempted bribery as an inducement to cover up crimes.

Other cases involve inducement not to seize cars or take action in drug cases, illegal logging, power theft as well as to facilitate trading licence approval.

The biggest bribe offered was RM35,000, he said.

Meanwhile, the MACC and the Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Hua Zong) would organise a briefing with the Chinese community on May 5 at Kuala Lumpur-Selangor Chinese Chamber of Commerce at Jalan Maharajalela in Kuala Lumpur, MACC deputy commissioner (prevention) Sutinah Sutan said.

"The session will be expanded to other states in collaboration with Chinese associations affiliated to Hua Zong," she said.
