The Human Resources Ministry is studying to determine the minimum level of wages for workers, especially those in low paying jobs.

NONE Human Resources Minister Dr S Subramaniam ( right ) said the detailed study based on various aspects was needed as it had vast implicationts.

"Study is done on all aspects to determine fair wages", he said.

The minister said this to reporters after officiating the 2010 Public

Servants Day of the Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) at the Stadium Negeri Terengganu, in Kuala Terengganu today.

Also present was Cuepacs president, Omar Osman.

Subramaniam said the study by the ministry by the end of last year found that the wages for the electronic, textile, plastic and furniture industries was just between RM550 and RM600 a month and placed such workers in a difficult situation.

Meanwhile, he said his ministry will re-restructure the curriculum, courses and skills training courses to be in line with the New Economic Model (NEM).

"The skills and education of all public servants and those of private

workers need to be enhanced to meet the objective of the NEM," he said.

Commenting on the the Labour Day, he said workers needed to be more innovative and creative.
