Sultans and mosques: Decree or puppetry?

Suhaimi Said: PAS spiritual leader Nik Aziz Nik Mat said in Felda Sg Tengi that Islam is a way of life. It encompasses (life), and if politics is taken out of Islam, then it is secularism.

According to him, we can discuss politics in the mosque. But he said he disagrees should partisan politics are brought into the mosque. Islamic politics could be discussed in the mosques but not politics in the sense of "political parties".

I definitely agree with Nik Aziz, whether the Selangor sultan likes it or not.

Geronimo: If speaking at a mosque by PAS is a no-no, what about Umno calling a sultan 'binatang' (beast)? Why wasn't any action taken by the palace concerned against the party? Because it was Umno?

It is glaringly clear which side the royalties are leaning to when they should remain apolitical. It doesn't matter whether the rakyat support the BN or Pakatan Rakyat. We are still the sultan's subjects and therefore should be treated fairly and equally.

Habib RAK: Prof Abdul Aziz Bari, thank you. This is a welcomed reminder to the public and to the royalties. The people don't need the royalty to survive, though the royalties need the people.

Keturunan Malaysia: Abdul Aziz Bari, people like you make Islam nice, clean, good and beautiful, as it should be.

Regretfully, the people who scream, beat their chests and pretend to tear their hearts out in the defence of Islam are the ones making it anything but nice, clean, good and beautiful as it should really be.

He who knows and knows he knows, he is a wise man... learn from him. He who knows not and knows he knows not, he is simple... teach him. He who knows not and knows not he knows not, he is dangerous... stay away from him. Aziz Bari, you are a very wise man.

RR: A very educated opinion expressed for the benefit of the rakyat, particularly Malay Muslims who should exercise discrimination in knowing right from wrong and tread the righteous path.

BTN: I'm sure the majority of Umno politicians will take this opportunity to cite you for sedition and derhaka (treachery) for what you have just said. May Allah be with you.

Yobama: If the ruler is head of Islam, they ought to be most knowledgeable about Islam. But throughout my life, I have never prayed behind any Malay ruler as imam during Friday prayers, or any other prayers. Why is it that these rulers are not appointed imam as well, since they are head of the religion?

The Prophet was reported to have said that when power is given to one not deserving because of lack of knowledge or expertise, then disaster awaits.

Multi Racial: We need more people like Abdul Aziz who is not afraid to speak against the rulers and the government for the benefit of Malaysia and Malaysians. What is wrong should be corrected. I fully agreed with what Abdul Aziz said and hope that the rulers would do something about it.

May Day: Police arrest six anti-GST protesters

Francis T Rozario: Yes, the GST is on its way and PM Najib Razak is waiting for it to be implemented without any care to workers wages. The workers of the world have brought down many a government. It will not be long before the Malaysian workforce does the same.

Tan Kian Khim: Students of history will note the similarities between the Umno-controlled police's determined suppression of these peaceful May Day protestors with the violent suppression of the German labour unions by the Nazi Party's Sturmabteilung (SA) paramilitary corps in the early 1930s.

The SA eventually evolved into the extreme fascist SS organisation - responsible for the majority of wartime atrocities during World War Two on the European and Russian fronts. The Malaysian police are steadily and willingly marching down the path to fascism - at the whim and fancy of their Umno masters.

Urban Malaysian: That the police dare to stop the annual May Day gathering reflects the tightening of restrictions on the right to gather peacefully by the people.

We can fault the police, or we can go all the way and point the finger at Najib's administration. The buck stops there. The workers of this country, on this symbolic day, merely wanted to express their objection to the imposition of the GST. It shows Najib is unwilling to listen to the people.

Elsewhere, we read of billions of ringgit of taxpayers money being leaked away due to corruption and mismanagement, yet Najib wants to go ahead and collect a further RM1 billion from the rakyat through the GST. Is that not heartless? Is that caring? What 1Malaysia?

It's more like ‘People First, Tax them Now'. Serves the 52 percent Hulu Selangorians right for voting in BN just because they received cash handouts and promises of this and that.

SKT: Somehow I think the GST is necessary. Without the GST, those rural folks (like in Hulu Selangor) would never feel how government policy impact their daily lives and continue to support BN. Only the urban folks understand how corruption increase our living cost and the decrease in the quality of life.

Gbm: Didn't police chief Musa Hassan call his men off the streets?
