Sodomy II: Karpal grills Saiful

Ubi Wan Kenobi: I feel very sad that there are so many willing to play along with Najib Razak and Rosmah Mansor's ill-conceived plot to put away their greatest political threat.

From chief investigating officer Jude Pereira and lead prosecutor Mohd Yusof Zainal Abiden (and his team) to the High Court judge, the BN-controlled media, and benighted rural voters who think (allegedly) committing anal or oral sex is a terrible crime - more terrible than accepting kickbacks, telling lies, and cold-blooded murder.

Those who have got themselves involved with this obscene and totally immoral conspiracy to thwart Anwar Ibrahim from becoming the next PM will seriously regret their error - not in the afterlife but very, very soon.

Ichigo: If I recall correctly, Najib who initially denied the meeting, flip-flopped and told us that the meeting was because Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan wanted to reveal to him that he had been sodomised by DSAI (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim).

Elaborating further, Najib told us Saiful hand was cold and appeared to be highly traumatised. By Saiful's account, the meeting took place on June 24, which was two days before the alleged sodomy took place. Was Najib looking through a crystal ball then?

Yobama: Who or which party stands to gain the most from DSAI's conviction and being jailed? Najib, BN and Umno stand to gain the most, of course.

Anwar is seen as the greatest threat to the political survival of the BN after the last general elections for he is the only one person who can hold all the disparate opposition parties together - Islamist, nationalist and ethnic Chinese (socialist) parties.

If this new 'pakatan' can win enough seats to rule Malaysia, the first thing they will try to do is clean up the 'mess' left by the BN.

Many in the BN government will be investigated - right from the PM down to the IGP (police chief), AG (attorney-general), etc. Those found guilty will not be spared the 'rod' and this is what scares most of those now in power. They will do anything imaginable to stop the surge of support for the new coalition.

One such effort is what we are now seeing - the prosecution and persecution of Anwar Ibrahim. For the sake of the dignity of Malaysia, stop the charade, Najib.

Tan Kian Khim: I must say, I am looking forward to watching Saiful being torn to pieces on the witness stand by the Tiger of Jelutong. It is clear to all that Umno-BN, desperate to take Anwar Ibrahim out of the political equation before the next general election by any means necessary, has thrown the entire weight of the suborned government machinery, police, judiciary and its lackey media outlets to achieve this vile objective.

This court is trying to railroad Anwar on trumped-up charges, the flimsiest of testimonies and manufactured evidence. The entire judicial process is so corrupted, even the judges are blatantly obstructing Anwar's defence. It seems that they are so desperate to 'get Anwar' that they aren't even bothering to put up a pretence of being fair to Anwar.

This is the kind of kangaroo court we see when the Burmese junta is suppressing Aung San Suu Kyi. With such blatant hypocrisy on show, how can the public have anything but the deepest contempt for the perpetrators of this farce?

Dr Mahendran Markandoo: Why don't all the rakyat request to meet Najib in his residence as we have one or the other problems we faced. Maybe we will be invited to have a hefty breakfast, lunch and dinner and also a big reward.

Md Imraz: This S Manikavasagam is starting to sound like a child. I fully support what the Selangor menteri besar did in asking for a police report to be made so action can be taken by him and the state government. That is totally in line with the spirit of eradicating corruption as advocated by Pakatan Rakyat.

No one ever asserted that if Pakatan helms the rule of this country, then there would be no corruption whatsoever. As a citizen, I'll be more than happy if the government of the day sincerely combats corruption rather than condoning it. So for Manikavasagam to even suggest that the MB "challenged" him to make a police report is sheer pathetic!

If he was truly sincere in fighting corruption, then why even the need to be challenged in order to reveal the names of those corrupt? If he drags on with his drama like this, then in no time at all he will be no different that the likes of Ezam Mohd Nor, Zahrain Hashim and Tan Tee Beng, who threatens to expose evidence of corruption as a negotiating tool for their personal agenda but have nothing really to expose.

Gk: I smell "fish" in this Manikavasagam. He is acting in putting up "convincing" show here to show the rakyat that he and the authorities involved are "impartial". Let's see if he is impartial or otherwise. Integrity of authorities, or for that matter, a leader, once lost, is hard to regain no matter what shows they try to put on.

MB Khalid Ibrahim is right to tell Manikavasagam to reveal the names involved and lodge a police report on that. This is what we called "transparent" in dealings, nothing to hide and with clear conscience.

Asas Serba's RM50 billion question

Kelvin: Seven percent is indeed ambitious but with an effective monopoly, that seems reasonable. But why would an unknown private entity suddenly come out of the blue with such a proposal? This seems quite fishy.

It seems the plan is to get private funds, then let the company cry to government when they are not profitable, then the government bails it out with public funds, all these so that some parties can suck money out of the country's funds, either by printing more money or using existing reserves.

I'm not sure how closely linked the company is to the government, but with the ambition to takeover PLUS, I guess it's not too overboard to say that they are very closely linked together.

I foresee a conflict of interest in the will of the government to encourage the use of public transport, building of a rail network if that is the case. We will then continue to see subsidies for private fuel instead of public transport and rail.
