Police have set up a special team to investigate the shooting of a man who ran amok two days ago in Kuala Selangor in which a stray bullet hit a civilian.

NONE Selangor police chief Khalid Abu Bakar said the team would conduct an internal investigation to find out whether all procedures had been complied with before the shots were fired.

He said both men were still being treated at Sungai Buloh Hospital.

Doctors were now observing S. Surentiran, 22, who was hit by a stray bullet in his left chest, he said, adding that an operation would be carried out to remove the bullet.

The man who ran amok, an ex-commando, who was injured on his ribs, knee and left toes, was also being treated at the same hospital, he said.

Both of them are reported to be in stable condition.

    

He also said that the policemen involved would remain in their beat as usual.

"There is no reason to suspend them from their duties. They were only doing their job," he said.

He also called on the people, including politicians, not to blow the issue out of proportion to the extent of creating confusion and stoking hatred against the force.

He urged all parties to leave it to the police to probe the incident.

"No one, including the police, wants this to happen," he said.
