11.15am: DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang again criticised Umno for practising a “Malay first, Malaysian second” policy and wants Prime Minister and Umno president Najib Abdul Razak to stay committed to his 1Malaysia concept.

Lim argued that statements by top government officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, was against the “Malaysian first and race second” principle, as stipulated in the Government Transformation Program (GTP).

The organisers are still waiting for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak. According to the organisers, there are about 7,000 people participating in the procession.

7.30pm: The p rime minister witnesses the Tua Pek Kong procession from Hoover Square, along with an estimated crowd of 50,000.

Thousands swarm the Temple Street starting 6pm to witness the procession as its way through Sibu town.

According to Bernama , a total of 120 teams from Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Indonesia participated in procession which had floats, lion and dragon dances besides Chinese cultural performances.

The Tua Pek Kong Temple, located on the banks of the Rajang River, is an icon of Sibu town with its seven-storey pagoda.
