Day 7 - Najib, Anwar in last-minute campaigning

8am: Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to attend morning meeting with Federal and State government officers at the Federal building, Block 1&2, Jalan Fong Ming.

DAP candidate Wong Ho Leng to have morning walkabout at Kg Nangka.

9am: Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein to attend citizenship and late birth certificate registration presentation ceremony, in conjunction with Home Ministry Customer Day at Sibu Gateway.

10am: Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Peter Chin Fah Kui to visit rural electricity scheme project sites at eight locations - Bawang Assan, Rumah Trusan, Rantau Panjang, Pasai Siong, Rumah Chukan, Rumah Tinggang, Rumah Mawat and Rumah Randi.

11am: Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud to attend meet the people session at Rumah Dick, Batu 8, Jalan Oya.

11.30am: Lim Guan Eng says Sibu will have to wait another 100 years before they will experience another by-election windfall from BN.

The DAP secretary-general said based on calculations by

mathematicians, Prime Minister Najib Razak's RM18 million allocation for schools is mere "peanuts".

"Eighteen million ringgit over 100 years works out to just RM180,000 a year. The Penang government gives RM11.3 million to all schools every year," he said at their daily press conference.

12pm: DAP candidate Wong Ho Leng to have walkabout at Kg Nangka and Kg Bahagia Jaya.

12.15pm: Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to perform Friday prayers at Masjid An-Nur, Kg Nangka and later attend a Jamuan Rakyat.

2.30pm: Election Commission deputy chairperson Wan Ahmad Wan Omar to meet with the commission campaign enforcement teams at level 24, Wisma Sanyan.

He will later meet Rela members in SK Bandaran Sibu, No. 3, Sibu (3.30pm).

4pm: DAP candidate Wong Ho Leng to have walkabout at Kg Bahagia Jaya.

5pm Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim to meet Sarawak PKR leaders.

5.05pm When met at the DAP operation room in Sibu, party supremo Lim Kit Siang declined to comment on

Wangsa Maju MP Wee Choo Keong's resignation from PKR .

"I think it is no surprise," he said.

6.30pm: Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim to perform Maghrib prayers at Sibu mosque. 

7pm: DAP candidate Wong Ho Leng to attend ceramah 88.

8pm: Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to launch Sarawak state level Minggu Perpaduan 2010 at Dataran Sibu.

Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim to attend c eramah at Sing Long Cheng Café, Jalan Teku.

 

He will later attend another ceramah at Kampong Bahagia Jaya (8.45pm) before moving on to give his speech at Restoran Idaman Café, Kampong Bandung (10.30pm).

anwar in sibu by election dap forum 10pm: Anwar Ibrahim arrives at a ceramah along Jalan Bandong in the Nangka constituency, sparking a frenzy of activity among the 300 diners present.

He pokes fun at Special Branch (SB) officers attending the ceramah. "I shook hands with everyone I met, including the SB guy on duty. But he didn't smile at me.

" Senyum lah (smile lah ), you are not the BN representative here. Who knows who will be in charge in future," he said to laughter from the crowd. [VIDEO l 9.29 min]

10.30pm: Commotion starts at the end of Anwar Ibrahim's speech at Jalan Bandong in Nangka, as his supporters chant "reformasi" repeatedly.

The situation riled up a group, believed to be BN supporters, who

replied "1Malaysia". Police intervened to avoid any altercation, no arrests made.

Anwar is now on his way to Rejang Park to join a DAP rally.

This is the highest crowd turnout since the by-election campaign started.

11.30pm: It is learnt that Prime Minister Najib Razak will be in Sibu on the last day of the by-election campaign. According to political observers, this is a sign that vote will be close.

"Sibu is indeed the Battle of Century. PM Najib is coming back to Sibu again with more angpows tomorrow. He will appear in Rejang Park. Let Sibu do a Rasa!" said DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang, referring to the Chinese in Hulu Selangor who voted against BN despite millions being pour into Chinese schools there.
