Keadilan Youth today lodged a police report against MIC Youth over its allegations which led to the arrest of the former's supreme council member N Gobalakrishnan on Saturday for alleged sedition.

The Keadilan leader was arrested in Penang while on his way to attend a public talk and brought before a magistrate in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday for the remand application.

He was alleged to have said that police brutalised Indian youths in lock-ups and executed them in a trigger-happy manner between 2001 and August this year.

Today's police report followed the Kuala Lumpur High Court ruling on Wednesday that Gobalakrishnan's detention under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act was invalid.

His arrest was prompted by a police report lodged by MIC Youth social action bureau chief T Mohan against him on Sept 23, charging that he had made serious allegations against the police and senior Barisan Nasional leaders.

These remarks were allegedly said during a recent public talk in Kota Baru, Kelantan, and were recorded on tapes and VCDs made available to the public.

'Baseless'

Today, a group of 20 supporters led by Keadilan Youth exco member Jayathal Sirkunavelu lodged the report at the Dang Wangi police station in Kuala Lumpur at 12.30pm.

Contacted later, Jayathal said police action should be taken against the MIC Youth leader since their allegations were "baseless".

"We are studying the possibility of a legal action since those irresponsible allegations had led to our leader being detained," he said, adding that the detention was "unreasonable".

He also asked the police to investigate into the reason Gobalakrishnan was detained and remanded by the police for four days till the court ruling came about.

In addition, he urged police to investigate into the cause of death of Indian youths in custody.

"We urge the police to find out the real causes. This is important to let the Indian community know the truth," he stressed.

Jayathal, who is also the party's Kota Melaka division chief, wanted Inspector-General of Police Norian Mai to give serious attention to the police report and the deaths in lock-ups.

Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act deals with offences of uttering seditious words. If found guilty, a person charged with a first offence will face a maximum three-year jail term and a RM5,000 fine.
