Lawyers to take Israel to criminal court
A special team, comprising local law practitioners, has been set up to file a petition to take Israel to the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands.
A special team, comprising local law practitioners, has been set up to file a petition to take Israel to the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands.
Led by lawyer Kamilia Ibrahim, the team is in the midst of drafting the petition and bringing in as many lawyers, academicians and legal volunteers in the country into the effort.
"What the Israelis did to the Gaza-bound humanitarian activists clearly violates international laws as well as human rights.
"The proof of their brutalities is available in video clips and from witnesses," Kamilia, who is Wanita Umno vice-chief, told reporters in Kuala Lumpur today.
On May 31, humanitarian aid ship,"Mavi Marmara" was attacked by Israel while on its way to Gaza, causing the death of nine activists .
There were 12 Malaysian activists onboard during the incident. Although unharmed, they were detained by the Israeli forces and taken to Ashdod port in Israel before being transported to Amman, Jordan.
They arrived safely at the KL International Airport at 5.40am today.
