Labour and civil service union, totalling nearly 1.8 million, have come out in support of the government's move to condemn Israel's attack on a Gaza-bound humanitarian aid flotilla.

The Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) supports the motion tabled by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak at the Dewan Rakyat today, which condemned the raid and asked the United Nations Security Council to refer Israel to the International Criminial Court.

MTUC secretary-general G Rajasegaran also urged the United States to intervene and force Israel to allow humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza.

"The MTUC is very disappointed with the (US President Barack) Obama administration for being unable to control Israel which is the world’s notorious terrorist nation.

"The US is busy trying to contain North Korea and Iran, but simply ignores Israel which is the worst rogue nation in the world," he noted.

Transport Workers Union general secretary Zainal Rampak, who was a former MTUC president, called on workers to boycott American goods as a protest against, and to pressure the US into “disciplining” Israel.

Zainal praised the Malaysian Government’s firm stand on the Gaza issue.

Cuepacs secretary-general Ahmad Shah Mohd Zin urged the world community to impose immediate sanctions against Israel, and the US to stop the former from terrorising the people of Palestine.

He is disappointed that the Organisation of the Islamic Conference had not taken a united stand to force the US to take action against its ally.

The MTUC represents 558,000 workers nationwide while Cupeacs counts 1.2 million civil servants as its members.
