The Dewan Rakyat has passed a resolution to strongly condemn Israel’s attack on a humanitarian aid vessel and urged the UN Security Council to initiate legal action against the Zionist regime through the International Criminal Court (ICC).

If this fails, Malaysia will work together with like-minded countries to push for a special emergency UN assembly to seek advice from the International Court of Justice (ICJ), Foreign Minister Anifah Aman, told the Dewan Rakyat today.

azlan Anifah was winding up the government’s special motion to condemn Israel’s raid on the Gaza- bound humanitarian aid flotilla last week which left nine people dead.

"The violent and uncivilised actions by the Zionist regime are not a new phenomenon for the international community, especially the people of Palestine.

"The massacre at Qana in a camp in southern Lebanon in 1996 and Operation Lead Cast at the end of 2008 in Gaza are still fresh in our memory.

"The cruelty of the Zionist military violence must be stopped. Therefore, the international community must act firmly terminate the violence soon," said Anifah.

OIC emergency meeting

Among the resolution that the government aims to adopt is Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim's suggestion that Malaysia work together with Turkey to initiate action against the Israeli military assailants.

NONE Anifah ( right ) also agreed with Bachok MP (PAS) Nasharuddin Mat Isa's suggestion to call for an extraordinary meeting at the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) but also informed Parliament that the executive body of the OIC had convened an emergency meeting in Jeddah yesterday and had come out with a communique.

He said the OIC had agreed to establish an International Investigations Commission to evaluate measures that can be taken against Israel.

Among other matters that were decided upon by the OIC were that diplomatic relations between some OIC member countries and Israel be re-evaluated and to consider implementing sanctions against Israel to help end the atrocities.
