PM's approval rating at record high

Ghkok: Based on the results of this survey, it can be concluded that Prime Minister Najib Razak will have no problems retaining his Pekan seat in the next general election. That's okay.

The survey did not say anything about the ‘popularity' of the other 140 or so BN MPs, or for that matter, other BN politicians. Based on this survey, you could even conclude that Najib will be the only BN person left after the next general election.

By Election Fan: Congratulations, Najib. Now call for a general election immediately. Don't sit in your seat, because you inherited it from ex-premier Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. If you are still not convinced of your strength, then ask Perak MB (Zambry Abdul Kadir) to dissolve the Perak assembly. We are ready for you anytime, anywhere.

Tok Wayang: With this new rating, I'm 100 percent sure that Pakatan Rakyat is now in panic mood. Some might even say Pakatan is now pissing in their pants. I can see Pakatan's doomsday is indeed drawing closer.

Mikey: Can Merdeka Centre tell us the basis of the poll? What was the methodology? How was the sample chosen? In what area, what segment of the population, etc? I can also do a poll to show you that MIC S Samy Vellu is the most popular person in Malaysia.

Kgen: If this survey was conducted in a Western democracy it would be more creditable, but public surveys have limited usefulness in repressive regimes like Malaysia where people dare not speak freely. Hence, there is usually a strong bias in the result towards the government. Take this survey with a bucket of salt.

Mockingbird: This must be a joke. Three appearances in Sibu elections and still lose? How does that measure up in popularity, Mr PM. You help me, I help you?

Jeremy Tankh: Of the 1,028 Malaysians surveyed by Merdeka Centre, 47 percent of the respondents said they were unemployed. Is Malaysia's unemployment rate at the shocking high rate of 47% at the moment? If not, obviously, the data base used in this exercise was not representative.

Son of The Eternal Bliss: Najib, please go ahead and announce the general election tomorrow. You will win hands down... if you get all the unemployed to vote, that is. What a fuzz. The credibility of this regime is in tatters in so many ways, and this survey is one reflection of it.

Chipmunk Again we have the infamous Merdeka Centre announcing approval ratings of the PM. We hope our prime minister will not be taken in by the approval rating, which shows that his popularity has surged to 72%. Maybe Najib is walking on Cloud Nine and smiling from ear-to-ear over his increased popularity.

But I hope it will not lead him to complacency, as the ratings did not really give a true picture of the people's sentiments, especially among the Malays.

Merdeka Centre fails to realise is that the Malays make up 65% of the country's population and about 11 million of them are registered voters. I do not see any credibility in Merdeka Centre's research and surveys.

Kong: Typical Malaysians. Rejecting whatever they don't like offhand without putting on their thinking caps first. In my opinion, it may be possible to explain why the PM's approval rating went up.

So far, he has via the National Economic Action Council (NEAC) and New Economic Model (NEM), said all the right things which have caused the rise in approval rating. He has acknowledged that there is rent-seeking, patronage and opaque government procurement, etc. And these are things that the previous administration didn't mention.

Of course, we all hope he can walk the talk. If he does, we should all be happy and his rating will go up further. If not, well... I wondered whether those who ridicule this survey ever bother read about the NEAC and NEM.

Susah Kes: Good God, Najib! Tell me which guruji/bomoh you see, I also may want to apply for some help. I mean, after Altantuya Shaariibuu, missing jet engines, Teoh Beng Hock, PKFZ (NFA, right?), Nasir Safar, Perkasa, Scorpene commission, Bala's statutory declarations, flip-flops on NEM/subsidies, Perak power grab, NAza land award, Toyo mansion, first lady's advertising boo-boo in New York Times , Apco, gambling licence, etc, etc, etc, and yet, this Merdeka Centre fellows tell us your rating has gone up!

Singa Pura Pura: 72%! Just imagine, if the opposition's allegations - of alleged involvement in murder, and of corruption, cover-ups and other abuses of power and position - had been disproved, even on a weak balance of probabilities, the rating might well have shot up to 95%.

Isana: Of course, the PM is very popular. He goes everywhere making 'I help you, you help me' deals with the rakyat. Minimum going rate starts from RM3 million.

'80% accept Najib's 1Malaysia concept'

Paddington Bear: I'm not staying in the interior areas and I have no problems accessing information on the concept but I sure as hell do not accept 1Malaysia, whatever it is.

Del Capo: Who has a problem with the 1Malaysia concept? We just don't trust the fellow selling it. I definitely don't trust them spending all those millions of ringgit selling the concept. Anyway, I guess Apco Worldwide is coming to collect their bonus cheque today . Immaculate timing, I must say.
