DAP national chairman Karpal Singh has issued a press statement calling for Prime Minister Najib Razak to direct “fresh investigations” into the 1974 assassination of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abdul Rahman Hashim.

NONE The IGP was murdered in broad daylight on Jun 7, 1974 in Kuala Lumpur. Thirty six years down the road, the perpetrator still eludes the police.

Lim Woon Chong, a senior member of the Malayan Communist Party (MCP) Liberation Front, was originally charged with the assassination but later cleared of the crime.

“Lim confided with me that he had nothing to do with the assassination,” Karpal ( right ) said.

The DAP member of parliament, who defended Lim during his trial in 1978, has raised this issue in Parliament on various occasions to deaf ears.

                                

Police professionalism in question

“When I raised this issue in Parliament, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Mohd Nazri Aziz said that investigations were still on.

NONE “If the murder of their own head cannot be solved, then this does not reflect well on the professionalism of our police force,” he said.

The 1974 incident took place when IGP Abdul Rahman ( right ) was on his way to the Thai-Malaysian General Border Committee (GBC) meeting at Federal Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, but for some unknown reason had to stop over at the Bukit Aman police headquarters. He was gunned down during his unscheduled detour.
