Human Resource Minister Dr S Subramaniam is expected to share thoughts on Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's New Economic Model (NEM) with member countries of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) at the 99th session of the International Labour Conference in Geneva, Switzerland.

Subramaniam, who left today to attend the annual conference organised by the ILO starting tomorrow, would stress to ILO member countries the importance placed by the Malaysian government to move the economy to a higher end through the building of a highly skilled workforce, the minister’s press secretary E Sivabalan was reported by Bernama as saying today.

He said Subramaniam was expected to outline one of the thrusts under the NEM, namely to welcome talented and skilled people from everywhere, including overseas Malaysians, as long as they were able to contribute to Malaysia's transformation to an innovative and high-income economy.

The conference groups labour ministers as well as a delegate each epresenting the employers and workers from member countries.

The agenda of the conference this year would include decent work for domestic workers, HIV/Aids in the world of work, a general discussion on the strategic objectives of employment and a review of the follow-up to the 1988 Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work.

Subramaniam is scheduled to return to Malaysia on June 19, Sivabalan said.
