A report over missing documents related to sand-mining transactions in Selangor is not a major problem as they can be traced through the computer system, said Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

He said the documents could also be retrieved by carrying out an auditing exercise on Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd (KSSB), the state-owned sand mining company.

"No problem. I treat this (the loss of documents) as a criminal offence. We must do something so that the problem will not recur," he told reporters in Klang yesterday.

Abdul Khalid was commenting on a police report lodged by an officer

with Selangor Land and Mines Department yesterday over the loss of the documents from his office on the fourth floor of the state secretariat complex.

The officer is conducting an internal investigation into sand mining

activities in the state.

The sand mining issue surfaced after Kapar MP S Manikavasagam lodged a police report over allegations of corruption in Kumpulan Semesta.

However, initial findings of the Selangor Select Committee on Competency, Accountability and Transparency (Selcat) showed that there was no evidence of corruption in the company.
