Two pregnant women escaped from a burning ambulance after the vehicle burst into flames after crashing into a Perodua Kancil in Tawau today.

Tawau acting police chief Supt Imran Abd Rahman said the accident occured when the Kancil which did not make way collided into ambulance at a junction.

He said the ambulance was taking the two pregnant women to Tawau Hospital at 1.40pm when the accident occured.

The ambulance driver, a nurse, her assistant and family member of one of the pregnant women escaped unhurt.

Imran said the 28 year-old driver of the car escaped with minor injuries but his 7 year-old son suffered a broken arm and was warded at the hospital.

In another incident, a fire destroyed three housing units in a shophouse at Bandar Sabindo at noon today.

Tawau senior fire officer Rosli @ Ambrose Tuzan said 20 firemen on two engines managed to bring the fire under control in 40 minutes.
