Prime Minister Najib Razak has urged PPP to stop harping on their internal feud and to buck up ahead of the next general election.

"PPP is a small party as compared to other parties in BN. So make yourself useful. Make the people see that PPP can fight for Barisan Nasional,” Najib said in his speech when launching the party's 57th Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Putra World Trade Centre this morning.

"It doesn't matter what kind of cat it is, as long as it catches the mice."

Almost in a scolding tone, he looked at Kayveas when giving his speech, saying that he had been very accommodating to the PPP president all this while.

"Whatever I can, I will accommodate. You want a deputy minister-ship, I give," he said, referring to the appointment of PPP vice-president Maglin D'Cruz as the deputy information, communication and culture minister early this month.

The move at the minor cabinet reshuffle was widely seen to appease the component party after a long and bizarre tussle with a splinter group headed by T Murugiah, who is also a deputy minister.

"Don't worry about the ‘fox’. Concentrate in strengthening PPP and Barisan Nasional," said Najib, who was obviously referring to Murugiah, who has been dismissed by Kayveas as a fox.

‘Stop the infighting’

Najib, as the head of the BN, also urged all the component party leaders to close ranks.

"Stop fighting in the open or in the media. Our enemies want our seat in the government, they want to go to Putrajaya,” he warned.

"How can I help PPP when I am not in power? If you have problems in BN or with someone else in the party, tell me quietly," he told the 800-odd PPP delegates at the one-day assembly.

"We must ensure BN remains in power. Why should we expose our own problem. Tell me, why do we need to shoot ourselves in the foot."

He stressed that BN component parties must focus all their energy on battling the opposition.

"Fight the opposition in the open. The people must see BN in a good light," he charged.

"We must focus on what it takes to make BN strong... BN leaders should not quarrel with each other openly or in public... let us quarrel with the opposition.

"Why quarrel among BN leaders... tell me, why we should quarrel with each other?"

Kayveas, who is also known to be very vocal with his views, have also gotten into verbal tussles with fellow BN component party leaders in MIC and Gerakan in the past.
