A snoop squad has been threatening couples that its members have caught in immoral activities that it would distribute their pictures if they do not heed to its demand, Bernama reported the Kelantan state assembly was told today.
Zainuddin Awang Hamat (PAS-Limbongan) said the squad tried to outpace Amru, a snoop squad formed by the state government, and asked whether the state government was aware of it.
In his reply, state Islamic development, education and dakwah committee chairperson Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said so far he received no complaint about such squad.
He said the authorities patrolled public places, picnic spots and shopping complexes as well as checked on lodging houses to nab unwed Muslim couples and Muslims caught in immoral activities.
State local government, tourism and culture committee chairperson Takiyuddin Hassan said the government welcomed a proposal to launch a campaign encouraging consumers to patronise eating shops served by waitresses who covered their aurat (those parts of the body which are deemed by Islam should be covered).
However, an appropriate approach must be adopted before such a campaign could take off, he said when replying to a supplementary question from Wan Ahmad Lutfi Wan Sulaiman (PAS-Kemuning).
To a question from Tuan Azami Mohd Nor (PAS-Kadok), Takiyuddin said all district councils in Kelantan would be upgraded to Islamic municipal councils although there were not yet qualified to be elevated to municipal councils.
He said this was in line with the aspiration of the state government to ensure that that all districts councils were elevated to municipal councils that instilled Islamic values.
Ketereh will be the first district council to be upgraded to an Islamic municipal council followed by Bachok District Council, he added.
"An Islamic municipal council must have infrastructure inclined on Islamic tenets and stimulate learning such as having pondok schools, and motivates the people to be pious, have clean surrounding, and spiritually enchanting," Bernama reported him as saying.
