Lim Guan Eng (DAP-Bagan) claimed that the government is unfair as it allowed Khazanah Nasional Berhad to handle the state allocation in Penang for the preservation of heritage sites instead of giving the allocation directly to the state government.

The Penang chief minister explained the federal government allocated RM30 million to Malacca which is handled by its state government, but for Penang, the amount was only RM20 million and given to Khazanah.

Guan Eng ( right) further queried what the basis was for Khazanah to be given the allocation.

"It is a government-linked company (GLC), it is not within their expertise," he asked.

Earlier, he had asked the Finance Ministry when the allocation for the preservation of the (Unesco) heritage sites would be channelled to the state government to enable the formulation of a special heritage plan as required by the UN body.

Deputy Finance Minister Donald Lim explained that the funds to preserve heritage sites had been channeled to Khazanah.

Guan Eng also expressed regret over the demolition of the Pudu jail.

"I want to express my regret at the demolition of the wall, it is one of the few heritage sites in Kuala Lumpur," he said.

Guan Eng said that the party will try to meet with the new management of UDA to discuss the possibility of preserving part of the prison's wall and the main entrance.
