The Ministry of Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing today questioned the intention of Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim who wished to submit a redevelopment plan for Kampung Baru although the area does not lie under the jurisdiction the state government.
Its minister Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin asked why was the plan, which according to Khalid had been submitted 15 years ago when he was the chief executive officer of Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB), not implemented.
"Everyone can make all kinds of suggestions... but implementing them is not easy. Why did he (Abdul Khalid) not push on that plan 15 years ago, why now?
"May be at that time, there was no political reason to push it...," he told reporters after presenting the ministry's Excellent Service Awards in Putrajaya today.
Yesterday, the Selangor Menteri Besar said he planned to submit the redevelopment plan for Kampung Baru as he had drawn up several alternative plans to the one made by the Federal Government concerning the redevelopment of the area 15 years ago.
The proposal is said to take into account all the relevant issues especially on the Malay permanent ownership, the problems of land division as well as to undertake development which balances the surrounding areas.
According to Raja Nong Chik, whatever proposals made by Abdul Khalid at that time might no longer be suitable for implementation now.
