Several individuals withdrew a complaint made against a state leader with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) shortly after lodging it today after refusing to have their statements tape recorded.

They also decided to so as they were not allowed to have a copy of the complaint, the MACC said in a statement.

It said the group lodged a complaint with the Selangor MACC office at 10am but refused to have their statements tape recorded as stipulated under Section 30 of the MACC Act 2009.

The MACC also cannot provide them a copy of the complaint as Section 29 (4) of the MACC Act 2009 prohibit the commission from divulging the content of any report to any quarters, added the MACC.

"For these reasons, the group requested to withdraw the complaint," it said.

The MACC said all formal complaints to the commission needed to be followed by tape recorded statements.

"The refusal of complainants to cooperate with the MACC will affect investigation process," said the statement.
