Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has advised the public to be wary of a group offering to alter electricity meters for a fee to reduce the monthly bill.

However, the group which impersonated TNB workers, had something else up its sleeve, the national utility company said in a statement today.

TNB said the bogus workers would subsequently accuse the consumers of tampering with the meters to steal power, and resort to extorting money, failing which they would threaten to inform the authorities.

TNB advised consumers to contact its nearest office or the police, in the event they were approached by such a group.
