In a bid to ensure transparency, companies awarded contracts from the Selangor government will be required to sign an integrity pact.

NONE Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim ( right ) said this will help ensure all business transactions are transparent and accountable.

"The pact will commit the signatories not to entertain bribery of any form," said Khalid at a press conference after the state executive councillors meeting today in Shah Alam.

He added the implementation of the integrity pact will begin immediately, starting with Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd (KSSB).

"This would mean that all bidders vying to win sand mining contracts with KSSB, will be required to sign the integrity pact.

"This will enable KSSB to further improve its efficiency and avoid any risk of corruption. It will also help the company to increase public awareness of its procurement system and enhance its reputation and image."

He also said that Transparency International has been enlisted to help in the implementation of the pact. "It will guide KSSB in its drafting, signing and implementation."

Khalid further explained that following the successful implementation of the integrity pact with KSSB, the state government will use it on other projects.

"The integrity pact complements other measures that are already being practiced by the Selangor State Government, including declassification of minutes, open tenders and the soon to be tabled Freedom of Information Enactment," concluded the Selangor Menteri Besar.
