Having been slapped with a few suits by celebrities, including model Zahnita, for allegedly using their pictures without permission for advertisements, Gulatis Exclusive Sdn Bhd (Gulatis), has filed a suit against the model for slander.

In the suit filed last February, Gulatis is seeking RM15 million in defamatory, aggravated and exemplary damages and other costs deem fit by the court, as well as an injunction to prevent Zahnita or her agents from repeating the defamatory words.

Kuala Lumpur High Court deputy registrar Norhatini Abd Hamid set Oct 8 for case management when the case came up for mention today.

NONE In the statement of claim, Gulatis stated that Zahnita, whose real name is Zahnita Dorothy Hussein Wilson, had defamed the company in her statement of claim.

The company claimed that the defamatory words were then published by the print and electronic media the following day.

Gulatis claimed that the defamatory words were understood to mean, among others, that the company was a liar, untrustworthy, had exploited her and involved in piracy.

It claimed that as a result, it affected the company business.

On Dec 11 last year, Zahnita, 25, filed a RM2 million suit against Gulatis for allegedly using her pictures on its posters and advertisements without her permission, claiming it resulted in her suffering huge losses when another textile company, Jakel Trading, cancelled its projects with her.

The case has been fixed for case management on Aug 17.
