Dewan Rakyat Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia will decide on Thursday on a motion to refer Tourism Minister Ng Yen Yen to the Rights and Privileges Committee for allegedly misleading the House over the cost of the Malaysian pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo.

Pandikar told the House this before the start of the debate sessions this morning.

This followed attempts by Teresa Kok (DAP-Seputeh) to move a motion against Ng for claiming that the cost for the construction, operating and demolition of the Malaysian pavilion was RM35 million in a written reply to Fong Po Kuang (DAP-Batu Gajah).

This contradicted an earlier written reply she received from Deputy Tourism Minister James Dawos Mamit who claimed that that the figure was RM20 million.

"The two answers are different. This is misleading the Dewan, I think that the minister should be referred to the rights and privileges committee," Kok told the House.

Despite allegedly failing to make the splash it was supposed to with visitors to the Shanghai World Expo, the Malaysian pavilion continued to raise a ruckus in Parliament.

Opposition lawmakers have claimed that the Malaysian pavilion was riddled with defects and was another failed federal government initiative.
