A member of parliament was rushed to hospital today after he felt unwell when attending a durian and mutton promotion fair at the multipurpose hall at Parliament House.
Ahmad Lai Bujang, the BN parliamentarian for Sibuti, was taken in an ambulance to hospital at 2.15pm.
Tangga Batu MP Idris Haron, who was at the same table with Ahmad Lai at the event organised by the Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Ministry, said the MP was jovial and chatted with the other elected representatives.
"All of a sudden, he loosened his tie and became quiet.
"When the other MPs saw him gazing upwards, they rubbed his forehead and asked him whether he was all right," he told reporters.
Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister Mukhriz Mahathir, who was sitting next to Ahmad Lai, immediately summoned the ambulance on standby at Parliament House.
Idris said Ahmad Lai was conscious all the time because he responded when asked to remain calm.
Ahmad Lai, who was admitted to the Coronary Care Unit of the hospital, is reported to be in stable condition and was expected to be discharged tomorrow, said his personal aide Mansor Mahdar.
He said the MP became unwell after possibly eating too much of durian and mutton.
