Terengganu State Secretary Mazlan Ngah said a new contractor has been engaged to clear debris from the collapsed roof of Sultan Mizan Stadium in five months.

"It will take some time as the job is delicate. This is to prevent damage to the stadium structure," he told reporters after the soft launch of World Gamelan Festival 2010 in Kuala Terengganu today.

Mazlan said the contractor would clear only the debris while another contractor would undertake repair work after the clearing job was completed.

"We will also be discussing the cost of repair with the other contractor," he added.

The roof of the RM270 million Sultan Mizan Stadium built in May 2008 collapsed in June last year.

He said the new contractor was picked by the State Tender Board which met two days ago.

The company's name had yet to be annnounced as the offer had not been received.

A new contractor had to be engaged as the earlier contractor failed to clear the debris as scheduled.
