Prime Minister Najib Razak has urged the Indian community not to use the newspapers for their own political agenda.

Due to the small percentage of the Indian community in the country, currently at 7.9 percent, using newspapers for one's benefit would only divide the community even further, he said.

NONE "Ini ada tiga suratkhabar India ni, asyik bantai sini, bantai sana. (There are currently three Indian newspapers, whacking here and whacking there). You are using the newspapers for your own political ends. You are destroying each other, you are destroying Barisan Nasional (BN).

"You should use newspapers for the betterment of the Indian community," he said in his speech when opening the MIC's 64th congress today.

Najib was referring to Tamil Nesan, Malaysia Nanban, Makkal Osai - all linked to various factions in MIC.

He said newspapers should be used as a tool of communication and to change the mind of Indians for the benefit of the community.

"Instead, (newspapers allege) kata dia tak betul, dia tak betul, akhir sekali BN runtuh (what he said is not right, he is not right, finally, BN collapses). This is what happened in the last general election," said Najib.

Thus, he urged all BN leaders to work together to serve the Indian community as working together was the only way to do well.

The prime minister also promised to solve the problems of Malaysian Indians through the Cabinet Committee.

According to Najib, there were some Indians who still did not possess MyKad and that there was a lack of Indians joining the police force.
