An old building, formerly used as a tin ore store at a housing programme for the hardcore poor (PPRT) at Changkat Tin, Tanjung Tualang, collapsed yesterday, killing three students and injuring another, who were playing there.

Batu Gajah district police chief ACP Najib Mohamad identified the dead as Ahmad Nuzol Ahmad Nawawi, 13, Muhamad Safwan Abdullah 13, both students of Sekolah Menengah CM Yusof, and  Muhamad Hisham Alias, 12, of Sekolah Kebangsaan Changkat Tin.

They sustained serious head and bodily injuries in the 7pm mishap and died at the scene, he added.

Their bodies had been sent to Batu Gajah Hospital for a post-mortem.

Najib said the injured was Sekolah Menengah C.M Yusof student, Mohd Shahir Zairi, 13, and he had been sent to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh for treatment.

He said all the students were from PPRT Changkat Tin, Tanjung Tualang here.

The students were found under the rubble and debris of the collapsed building about 10pm yesterday by family members and local residents who mounted a search when the children did not return home, he added.
