Senator Mohd Ezam Noor has handed over 'evidence' to the Home Ministry, allegedly proving that Star and Malaysiakini had insulted the royal institution.

When contacted and asked for elaboration, Ezam, who is currently overseas, politely declined.

In another posting later, Ezam said he would not entertain any requests for comments from Malaysiakini until the news organisation apologises to the Conference of Rulers.

Previously, Ezam alleged that Star and Malaysiakini had insulted the Conference of Rulers with their coverage of allegations that foreign labourers at the site of the new national palace were not paid their wages.

According to Ezam, the two publications were tantamount to "evil manipulative elements" out to destroy the country's fundamental institutions.

Star ran a front page story on May 27, detailing the plight of 1,000 foreign labourers claiming that they had not received wages for three months.

Following this, Malaysiakini reported on the attempts by human rights groups and opposition lawmakers who tried in vain to inspect the construction site.

The federal government has since denied withholding payment for the foreign workers.
