Umno's Sri Serdang assemblyperson Mohamad Satim Diman was today found not guilty of making a false statement to the Selangor state assembly, but fined RM1,500 for refusing to attend a public hearing on his case.

He was let off with just a warning as the rights and privileges committee found his claim that Bank Islam had a suit against Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim was true, though he did not tell the whole story behind Khalid's case.

Speaker Teng Chang Khim explained that while Bank Islam managed to get a direct ruling against Khalid, Satim failed to include that Khalid also had a suit against Bank Islam and that the case was pending a full trial.

"He only told half the story, but there is truth to it. Even if it is not the full story, the committee found him not guilty because there is such a case," Teng told a press conference.

Satim will have RM1,500 docked off his special allowance for elected representatives, as his refusal to attend the public hearing was akin to contempt against the House, said Teng.
