Malaysia lashed out at the Israeli regime for setting up a panel to probe their own attack on the humanitarian aid convoy, Freedom Flotilla, in international waters on May 31.

"The action by the Israeli regime is inappropriate because it was Israel that was involved in the attack incident and thus it is not possible for that country to make a transparent and impartial investigation," said Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin when tabling the special motion at the Dewan Negara to criticise the Israeli atrocity.

"Such action also shows the arrogant attitude of Benjamin Netanyahu who rejected the cooperation of the international community in setting up an investigation panel to investigate the attack," said Muhyiddin.

Muhyiddin said this was contrary to the call by the international community for an independent international investigation panel to be set up instead of a partial body.

The motion containing 14 resolutions also fully supported the United Nations (UN) investigation panel chaired by a former New Zealand prime minister Geoffrey Palmer and comprising representatives from the United States, Israel, Turkey and the UN.

Muhyiddin said Malaysia would continue to demand that Israel complied with Resolution 1860 of the UN Security Council to open up a passage for the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

In this context, Muhyiddin said Malaysia would continue to urge the Egyptian government to allow humanitarian aid to be channelled through the Rafah border gate.

"The prime minister had written a letter to the Egyptian president to seek that country's cooperation to open the border gate in Rafah unconditionally for the continued channelling of humanitarian aid to Gaza," he said.

He also recorded his appreciation to the Malaysian people who had participated in the Freedom Flotilla convoy.
