Pasir Mas MP Ibrahim Ali today described as a "wild accusation" the reference to Perkasa, a Malay right-wing organisation, as a militant group by a former envoy of the United States.
Ibrahim, who is president of Perkasa, said the organisation was a legitimate body which championed the plight of the Malays and was not a militant group which used weapons to pursue its cause.
He was asked to comment on the reference to Perkasa as a militant group by John R Malott, a former United States ambassador to Malaysia, in an article entitled "What Anwar's Trial Means for Malaysia" in The Wall Street Journal today.
"We have nothing to do with militants. We may be very vocal, but there are also other non-governmental organisations which are just as vocal," Ibrahim said.
