Over 280 hawkers and petty traders at the Rope Walk area in Lorong Kulit, today protested against a proposed move by the Majlis Perbandaran Pulau Pinang (MPPP) to relocate some of them.

Penang Petty Traders and Hawkers Association chairperson Yeoh Beng Hock said the relocation to Jalan Perak would take a heavy toll on their earnings as they had first relocated in 2002.

He told reporters that the hawkers had submitted a memorandum to MPPP to protest against the move.

Keramat state assemblyperson Jagdeep Singh Deo said he would meet MPPP president Patahiyah Ismail to resolve the issue.
