SINGAPORE - Singapore Telecommunications Ltd's (SingTel) cable subsidiary C2C and Malaysia's Time dotCom Bhd are to jointly provide telecom services, the two companies said today.

Under the agreement, they will use their existing networks to provide city-to-city connectivity to carriers and service providers locally and internationally.

Customers will be provided with connections "to key Asian cities" in China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea and the Philippines with onward connectivity to the United States, the companies said in a joint statement.

"This agreement greatly enhances the market positions of both C2C and Time in this region," said C2C chief operating officer Hoh Wing Chee.

Win-win situation

"With our cable network and Time's market influence, this is a win-win situation where both companies will benefit tremendously."

C2C runs one of the world's largest submarine cable network measured at 17,000 kilometres.

SingTel is the biggest shareholder in C2C and the other partners are KDDI and KDDI-SCS of Japan, Globe Telecom from the Philippines, Hong Kong's iAdvantage, South Korea's GNG Networks Inc, Taiwan's New Century Infocomm Co., and Tycom Asia Networks from the US. - AFP
