The appeal over the Kota Siputeh seat vacancy will be up for case management tomorrow, Menteri Besar Azizan Abdul Razak said today.

azlan He told reporters after chairing the state executive council meeting in Alor Setar today that the state government received a notice on the matter which was sent to the state legal advisor.

He added that the state government had appointed Ayer Itam assemblyperson Abdul Ghani Ahmad as the caretaker for the constituency following the High Court's decision in November last year to declare the seat vacant.

The court had ruled that incumbent assemblyperson Abu Hassan Sarif was no longer the representative for the area for failing to attend two consecutive meetings of the state legislative assembly without leave.

The court also ordered the Election Commission (EC) to call a by-election.

The EC had appealed against the decision.
