Two Indonesian sisters, the last suspects held by police over the baby-for-sale racket, were released on police bail today.

Court registrar Dayang Roselind Awang Mahdini released the two sisters, aged 22 and 19, in Kuching this morning.

The duo were picked up at a house in Batu Kawa on July 16 believed to have been used as a transit point for the sale of babies and children to willing buyer. Police found a four-year-old boy and a girl aged three.

Seventeen people, including a 65-year-old businessman ‘Datuk’ and his 43-year-old wife were remanded to facilitate the investigations under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act 2007. However, they were released on police bail in stages since July 22.

None of them have been formally charged.

Police got their ‘break’ into the baby-for-sale racket on July 12 when a 32-year-old Indonesian woman allegedly tried to sell a one-month-old baby to an undercover police personnel for RM10,000 in Batu Kawa in Kuching.

Eight children, aged between one month and 12 years, were found in different locations in the city and are now in the custody of the state Welfare Department.
